As you move through Tai Kok Tsui, you step away from what is just in front of you. Instead you start to see contradictions, you notice a difference in vibe between streets, you a see a street fighting for its survival, you notice what the future will look like, while you crave for the past.
I have lived next to Tai Kok Tsui for a few years now, and which each pass through you notice new interesting things. It can be a different vibe, a new construction site, a building renovation, a new ‘clean up’ of the street, or just the people moving through. I decided to capture this area with my camera over a few days. The result is this small zine. It is not a comprehensive overview, it is a moment in time as seen through my eyes/lens.
For this zine I limited myself to a physical but also psychological rectangle. Tai Kok Tsui is built as grid pattern of parallel streets. As you move through these street you notice a different feeling as well which makes it interesting. While Tai Kok Tsui is obviously larger than that rectangle, I felt the essence of Tai Kok Tsui could be captured within that rectangle. It created a boundary, a beginning and an end. It is fascinating to experience what happens within that rectangle.
